Sarah Lieber is the Co-CEO and Senior Managing Director of JBSL, a Legal Finance Company. Over the last half decade, Sarah and her team have syndicated and managed billions of dollars in litigation investments with partners ranging from hedge funds, alternative asset managers, private equity, insurance companies, large family offices, and traditional litigation funders. The group’s unique and structured approach has helped institutionalize the asset class in a way that provides borrowers with facilities more akin to traditional commercial lending, and provides investors the flexibility to put more money to work and fit varying investment needs. JBSL is also the only desk on Wall Street that regularly facilitates secondary market trading of other financiers’ and plaintiffs’ litigation risk. Sarah frequently advises other litigation funders, hedge funds and their LPs concerning the secondary market and the structuring of investments. Prior to JBSL, Sarah was the Co-Head of the litigation finance business at a publicly traded global investment bank. Sarah is a commercial litigator by background, having spent the first decade of her career in the Financial Litigation and Trial Practice Groups at Jones Day in New York, and then as Deputy General Counsel and head of litigation for monoline bond insurer, CIFG Assurance. At CIFG she built a broad litigation program that resulted in recovery of nearly a billion dollars in losses incurred during the financial crisis.
